Avelo Airlines will begin nonstop service to Atlanta, Denver, Nashville and New Orleans from McKinney National Airport in mid-December, bringing its DTX schedule to nine cities. McKinney is about 13 miles north of Plano. The city announced Sept. 24 that the airport’s new passenger terminal remains on schedule to open Nov. 11.
Atlanta and Denver service starts Dec. 16, with four flights weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Nashville and New Orleans flights begin Dec. 17, each operating Thursday and Sunday. The initial schedule includes Fort Myers on Nov. 11, followed by Las Vegas and Orlando on Nov. 12 and Tampa and Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 19.
The Houston-based airline will operate Wednesday through Monday, with no Tuesday flights, using three 184-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft based at DTX. Tickets are available at AveloAir.com, where DTX is the airport code.
Avelo is expected to bring more than 100 jobs, including pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians, ground-handling workers and customer service employees. Ignacio Flores, the Federal Aviation Administration’s Southwest Region airports director, gave the airport’s operating certificate to Aviation Director Ken Carley.
Carley said construction is weeks from completion, while Avelo CEO Andrew Levy cited the added destinations as evidence of the company’s commitment.
