Three new Plano Fire-Rescue ambulances that never arrived last budget year account for the biggest share of $3.68 million in unspent money the City Council is set to roll into the current budget on Monday, Oct. 12.
The carry-forward ordinance is on the council's consent agenda. A staff memo says the list covers projects that were not finished or under contract by Sept. 30, when the 2025-26 budget year ended. Of the total, $2,932,141 comes from the general fund.
Ambulances still on order
Fire-Rescue asked to carry forward $1,345,998 for three ambulances. The request says the city fleet division again ran into manufacturing delays and lists an estimated delivery of October 2026.
Downtown projects pushed back
Several downtown items are on the list:
- $149,128 for a vintage-style "Welcome to Historic Downtown Plano" sign to replace the monument sign at the northwest corner of G Avenue and 15th Street. Staff wrote that the project slowed when purchasing rules changed to require a call for artists, which is in its first phase, so the sign could not be designed, permitted and installed last year. The sign still needs a permit, and more money is to come from two downtown tax increment funds.
- $20,000 to pay artists for rotating murals on a permanent display structure planned for the Frontier Building wall at K Avenue and 15th Street. According to the request, the Frontier and Verizon merger delayed an easement for the structure, and artists cannot be hired until it is secured and built.
- $45,000 for a weekend celebration to unveil the mural wall along with new pedestrian alley improvements and streetscape work at the southeast corner of K Avenue and 15th Street. That construction is now scheduled for 2027.
