Democrat Julie Holmer won the Precinct 4 seat on the Collin County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, according to the county's unofficial returns with all 90 vote centers reporting.
Holmer received 56,177 votes, or 53.31%, to 49,198, or 46.69%, for Republican Shelby Williams, a margin of 6,979 votes. She led in every category of ballots: 1,609 to 1,422 by mail, 47,449 to 40,696 in early voting and, narrowly, 7,119 to 7,080 on Election Day. About 7,100 voters in the precinct left the race blank.
Precinct 4 covers the southwest corner of the county, including much of Plano, according to the county's commissioner precinct map. The seat is held by Duncan Webb, who was not on Tuesday's ballot.
His county biography says he has lived in Plano since 1983, practices law in Dallas and Plano, and served four three-year terms on the Plano ISD board, including three years as its president.
Plano Magazine reported Wednesday that Holmer defeated Williams. The Dallas Morning News, in a headline Wednesday, described the result as breaking up a Republican court. We did not find a statement from either candidate on Wednesday.
The court will have at least two new commissioners. In Precinct 2, now represented by Cheryl Williams, Republican Michael Slaughter ran unopposed and drew 59,665 votes. Shelby Williams and Cheryl Williams are different people.
The totals are unofficial until the results are canvassed.
