Plano firefighters pulled a horse out of a drainage ditch over the weekend after it and several other horses got loose near State Highway 121, the department said.

It happened Saturday, Oct. 17, when Plano Fire-Rescue helped with several horses that had gotten loose along the highway, according to a FOX 4 report on the department's account. One of the animals wound up in a nearby drainage ditch.

Crews first sedated the horse so it could be moved safely. They then rigged a fire hose and a winch and hauled the animal up and out of the ditch.

The horse came away with a few scratches but was otherwise not hurt, the department said.

"An unusual call, but a great example of teamwork in action!" Plano Fire-Rescue wrote in a Facebook post about the rescue.

The department's account, as reported, did not say who owns the horses, how they got loose or exactly where along Highway 121 the ditch is. It also did not say whether the other horses were rounded up without injury.
