A Blank Slate for San Jose

The San Jose Sharks traveled to Texas on Monday, October 5, 2026, with a 2-0-0 record after two overtime wins at home. They left the American Airlines Center with an empty scoreboard and a record that now stands at 2-1-0, earning four points in the standings.

The visiting team was unable to solve the Dallas Stars' defense or find any offensive rhythm throughout the contest. San Jose finished with zero goals on 13 shots, all stopped by Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger.

Dallas Takes Control

For the Dallas Stars, the breakthrough came late in the first period. The home crowd of 18,532 watched Miro Heiskanen open the scoring. Heiskanen’s second goal of the year came on a backhand shot, assisted by Roope Hintz and Jamie Benn. That goal put Dallas ahead 1-0 and set the tone for the remainder of the game.

The Stars did not rest after taking the lead. They poured pressure on the Sharks’ netminder, eventually breaking through again to take a commanding 2-0 advantage in the second period.

Second Period Surge Seals Fate

The second frame was where Dallas effectively put the game out of reach. Joel Kiviranta scored his first goal of the season with a snap shot, supported by assists from Oskar Bäck and Radek Faksa. That made it 2-0.

Shortly after, Jamie Benn added another tally, also on a snap shot. Assisted by Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, Benn’s first goal of the season made it 3-0 for Dallas. The momentum continued as Jason Robertson scored his own first goal on a wrist shot with no assists credited. That pushed the score to 4-0 before the second period ended.

Final Horn and Standings

Mikko Rantanen capped the scoring in the third period with his first goal of the season, a wrist shot assisted by Sam Steel. The final score of 5-0 reflected Dallas’s complete control over the game.

Jason Robertson finished with a goal and an assist. Roope Hintz recorded two assists, while Jamie Benn contributed two points total (one goal and one assist). The win was the first of the season for the Stars, who improved their record to 1-2-0 with two points.

San Jose, handed its first loss of the season, fell to 2-1-0 with four points.
