Ericsson says its manufacturing operation in India has now turned out more than 15,000 antennas and 25 million components, SDxCentral reported.
The telecom equipment maker said in a release that over the past year it has grown its Indian operation in sourcing, engineering, manufacturing and exports, supplying customers in India and in other countries. Ericsson began building export-ready antenna units in India last summer, and antennas made there now ship worldwide, according to SDxCentral. The outlet noted reports last October that Ericsson intended to make all of the equipment it sells in India inside the country.
The company said it will keep building up its antenna supply chain in India, adding local engineering and export capacity and supporting Indian suppliers.
"India is an important part of Ericsson's global innovation, engineering, and manufacturing footprint," said Andres Vicente, who heads Ericsson's business in Southeast Asia, Oceania and India. He said the output figures show "how quickly this ecosystem is developing," and that Ericsson and its partners are working on capabilities for networks that are energy-efficient and ready for AI.
Ericsson already runs research and development sites in Chennai and Gurugram and a chip design research center in Bengaluru. It started an India 6G research program in 2023 that pairs Indian teams with researchers from the United States and Sweden.
