Plano is the fittest city in Texas, and the 12th fittest in the nation, according to the 2026 ACSM American Fitness Index released this month.
The ranking places Plano ahead of every other Texas city evaluated, including Austin (No. 28), Dallas (No. 43) and Houston (No. 44), and makes it the clear leader among North Texas communities. Plano scored especially well on the index's personal health measures, ranking 10th in the country, a reflection of residents' activity levels and health outcomes.
Its community and environment score, which weighs assets like parks, trails and walkable infrastructure, ranked 30th.
The index, published for the 19th year by the American College of Sports Medicine with the Elevance Health Foundation, scores the 100 largest U.S. cities on personal health measures, such as physical activity, chronic disease and health outcomes, and on community and environment measures like parks, walkability and air quality.
Plano's showing continues a run of strong results for the city on national health and quality-of-life rankings, and it stands out in a state where most large cities landed in the bottom half of the list.
Six other North Texas cities made the top 100: Frisco at No. 32, Dallas at No. 43, Fort Worth at No. 69, Garland at No. 72, Arlington at No. 78 and Irving at No. 86.
