Spence Powers Astros Surge

Houston Astros outfielder Spence provided the decisive offensive spark in a seven-run, eight-homer slugfest against the Athletics on Friday. The away team trailed for much of the game but leveraged a three-homer performance from Spence to secure a 7-5 victory at Sutter Health Park. The win improved Houston's record to 79-80, while Sacramento fell to 63-96.

Early Offense Sets Tone

The Astros established an early lead in the second inning. Spence launched a 429-foot home run to right center, driving in Walker and Smith to make it 3-0. The response came in the third when McNeil hit a 379-foot homer to right center, scoring Heim and Langeliers to tie the game at 3-3.

Gelof followed with a 413-foot solo shot to center, giving the home team a 4-3 lead. Paredes answered in the sixth with a 394-foot solo homer to left, restoring parity at 4-4.

Late-Inning Decisiveness

The balance shifted in the seventh inning when Spence hit a 387-foot solo homer to right center, extending Houston's lead to 5-4. The Athletics managed to narrow the gap in the eighth, with Walker hitting a 436-foot solo homer to left center for a 6-4 Astros lead. Gelof responded with a 398-foot solo homer to left center, cutting the deficit to 6-5.

In the ninth, Spence delivered the final blow with a 351-foot solo homer to right, sealing the 7-5 result.

Pitching Performance

Mason Barnett started for Sacramento, pitching six innings while allowing four runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out eight. Scott Blewett took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing one run on three hits.

For Houston, Peter Lambert pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out six. Miguel Ullola earned the win, pitching three scoreless innings with one hit and three strikeouts.

Bryan Abreu recorded the save, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.
