Struggles on the Mound
The Texas Rangers found themselves on the wrong side of a lopsided result on Saturday, losing 11-2 to the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. The loss dropped the Rangers’ record to 55-55, while the Astros improved to 56-55.
Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi took the loss, falling to 10-9 on the season. He pitched five innings but allowed six earned runs on ten hits, along with one walk and five strikeouts. The damage began early in the second inning when a double by Adolis García and a subsequent single by Corey Seager loaded the bases.
An RBI single by Marcus Semien followed, pushing the score to 3-0. Eovaldi managed to get through the third and fourth innings but continued to give up hits. Luis Curvelo entered in relief for the Rangers, pitching two innings where he allowed four earned runs on four hits and four walks.
Nicky Lopez finished the game for Texas, giving up one earned run in his single inning of work.
Astros Offense Explodes
Houston’s offense was fueled by a barrage of power hitting. The Astros broke through in the fourth inning when Josh Smith scored on an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe. The scoring intensified in the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs.
Evan Carter launched a three-run homer to left center, extending the lead. Shortly after, Yordan Alvarez added another long ball, making it 6-0. The Astros continued their assault in the seventh inning.
