Rangers’ Early Lead Vanishes
The Texas Rangers held a narrow advantage for most of the first half of Saturday’s game, but a chaotic fourth inning proved decisive in their 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. The Rangers, visiting the Astros, had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth before the home team’s offense exploded to reclaim the lead and never relinquish it.
Houston’s offensive output began earlier, however. In the second inning, the Astros struck first when Altuve scored on a Wade Jr. single to right field, putting Houston ahead 1-0. The Rangers answered in the third, tying the game at 1-1 on a Langford home run to left field.
Texas then took the lead later in the same frame, scoring two runs on a Trammell single that drove in both Alvarez and Walker.
Fourth Inning Decides Outcome
The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Astros plated one run on an Osuna single that brought Carter home. They immediately added another when Díaz executed a sacrifice bunt, allowing Duran to score from third base.
The rally continued as Walker reached on an infield single, scoring Peña to make it 4-3. Houston extended the lead to 5-3 when Alvarez scored on a wild pitch by Texas reliever Cole Winn. A subsequent challenge by the Rangers regarding another run scored on a Winn wild pitch was upheld, sealing the five-run inning.
