Trammell’s 3-run homer sends Astros past Blue Jays 7-2

Toronto ties it before Houston answers

Toronto had pulled even in the fifth inning, but Trammell’s three-run homer in the bottom half shifted the game back to Houston in the Astros’ 7-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.

The home run was the only one of the game and came with Walker and Altuve aboard, turning a 3-2 Houston lead into a 6-2 advantage. Altuve drove in two runs, scoring Alvarez with an infield single in the fifth and bringing in Walker with a single in the seventh.

Astros build a lead in the fourth

Houston broke through in the bottom of the fourth after Altuve scored on Diaz’s single to left, with Trammell moving to second on the play. The Astros added another run in the inning when Smith singled to left, Trammell scored on an error, Smith reached second on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, and Diaz was safe at third on the error.

Toronto answered in the top of the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, trimming Houston’s lead to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, tying the game at 2.

Houston responded in the bottom of the fifth. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell followed with a 388-foot homer to right, scoring Walker and Altuve for a 6-2 Astros lead.

Pitching and records

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, allowing four hits and two earned runs over six innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Bennett Sousa pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos worked two innings, allowing one hit with no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, allowing seven hits and six earned runs in three innings with four walks and three strikeouts. Trey Yesavage pitched two innings with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts. Braydon Fisher, Brendon Little and Mason Fluharty also pitched for Toronto.

The announced attendance was 30,450. Houston improved to 59-56, while Toronto fell to 53-61.
