Late Surge Overcomes Early Deficit

The Oakland Athletics snapped a recent losing streak by rallying in the final two frames to defeat the Houston Astros 4-3 on Saturday at Daikin Park. The away team trailed by three runs entering the eighth inning but managed to score four times in that frame to take the lead for good.

The game drew a crowd of 31,009 fans, with the Athletics improving their record to 50-80 while the Astros fell to 65-65.

Game Progression

Oakland took an early lead in the third inning when Walton homered to center for a 1-0 advantage. Houston tied the game in the fourth when Diaz doubled to left, allowing Walker to score. The Astros took the lead in the seventh inning when Varsho homered to left, followed by a single from Peña that scored Wade Jr., making it 3-1.

The Athletics began their comeback in the eighth inning when McNeil scored on a wild pitch from Sousa, and Gelof advanced to third. Butler then singled to right to score Gelof, tying the game at 3-3. Finally, Heim grounded out to shortstop, allowing Butler to score and giving the Athletics a 4-3 lead.

Pitching Performance

Jacob Lopez started for the Athletics, pitching six innings and allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. Luis Medina pitched one inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts, securing the win to improve his record to 5-3.

Hogan Harris recorded the hold with one inning of work, allowing no hits, no earned runs, and one strikeout. Elvis Alvarado closed the game with one inning, allowing no hits, no earned runs, and striking out two batters to earn his third save.

For Houston, Hunter Brown pitched 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run while issuing three walks and striking out four.
