Astros Dig Themselves Into a Hole

The Houston Astros opened the game with a modest lead, but the Athletics quickly turned the tide in the fourth inning. Walker hit a home run to left field, carrying the ball 425 feet to give Sacramento a 1-0 advantage. The visiting club managed to tie the game temporarily in the sixth, but the home team’s offense exploded before the end of the frame.

Sixth-Inning Explosion

The decisive run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Stefanic singled to center, scoring McNeil and Gelof to make it 1-2. Heim followed with a single to left, bringing in Clarke for a 1-3 lead.

Bolte then tripled to center, allowing White and Heim to score, extending the margin to 1-5. Butler grounded into a fielder's choice to first, and Bolte crossed the plate to make it 1-6. This sequence of four runs in a single inning proved insurmountable for the Astros.

Late Rally Falls Short

Houston attempted a comeback in the final three innings. Smith homered to left for 366 feet in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 2-6. In the eighth, Altuve hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Wade Jr. Diaz singled to left, allowing Alvarez to score.

Paredes then scored on a wild pitch by Medina, and another wild pitch sent Diaz to third. Despite these efforts, the Astros could not generate another run to equalize the score.
