Late Rally Decides Tense Affair

The Seattle Mariners overcame a significant early deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 6-5 in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The home team trailed 4-0 after the third inning but mounted a scoring surge in the fifth and a decisive push in the tenth to secure the win. Attendance at the venue was 24,802.

The victory improved Seattle’s record to 74-84, while Houston’s record fell to 78-80.

Scoring Sequence

Houston took an early lead in the top of the third inning. Jose Altuve singled to left to score one run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Carlos Paredes that brought in another. Yordan Diaz then homered to left, scoring two runs to make it 4-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Mariners tied the game 4-4 when Arozarena scored on a single by Canzone. The score remained 4-4 until the top of the tenth inning. Diaz tripled to right to score Alvarez, making it 5-4.

Rodríguez walked to score Crawford, tying it 5-5. Finally, Naylor singled to center to score Arozarena, giving Seattle the 6-5 lead.

Pitching Performance

George Kirby started for the Mariners, pitching five innings while allowing six hits and four earned runs on three walks and five strikeouts. The bullpen followed, with Jose Ferrer, Gabe Speier, Carlos Vargas, Seranthony Dominguez, and Cooper Criswell each pitching one inning. Criswell earned the win, improving his record to 4-2.

For Houston, Ethan Pecko started, pitching 2.2 innings while allowing four hits and three earned runs on two walks and two strikeouts. Joshua Hendrickson pitched two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run on three strikeouts. Logan VanWey, AJ Blubaugh, and Bryan Abreu also pitched.

Abreu recorded one hit and one strikeout in one inning. Josh Hader took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings while allowing two hits, one earned run, and four walks.
