Houston’s offense stalls
Houston Astros collected nine hits against Shane Bieber but turned them into only one run, and Kirk’s early homer helped the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Astros 3-1 on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
Bieber earned the win, moving to 3-2, after allowing one earned run on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings. The only Houston run came in the sixth.
Toronto builds the lead
Toronto, batting as the away team, moved ahead in the top of the second when Kirk homered to left center, a 373-foot shot that made it 1-0. It was the only home run of the game.
The Blue Jays added two runs in the top of the fourth. Sánchez singled to left, and Okamoto scored on a throwing error by left fielder Trammell, with Sánchez safe at second and Springer safe at third on the error. Clement followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Springer and pushing Toronto’s lead to 3-0.
Houston answered in the bottom of the sixth. Peña singled to center, scoring Diaz, with Peña moving to second and Smith to third, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
