Clement’s 10th-inning homer sends Blue Jays past Astros, 5-4

Astros’ third-inning lead slips away

The Astros built a 3-0 lead in the third inning Wednesday, August 5, 2026, but Clement’s two-run homer in the 10th gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park.

Clement homered to left, a 391-foot drive that scored Urías and moved Toronto ahead 5-3. The swing was the third home run of the game and the one that held up after Houston answered with one run in the bottom of the 10th.

Houston scores first

Houston took the first lead in the bottom of the third. Altuve homered to left, a 401-foot shot, for a 1-0 Astros lead. Later in the inning, Walker doubled to left to score Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker, pushing Houston ahead 3-0.

Toronto got back into the game in the top of the sixth. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, cutting the Astros’ lead to 3-1. Sánchez followed with a 398-foot homer to right, scoring Okamoto and tying the game 3-3.

Pitching keeps it level

Hunter Brown worked six innings for Houston, allowing three hits and three earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. Toronto’s Jameson Taillon went four innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Blue Jays’ bullpen kept Houston from adding to its lead before extra innings. Spencer Miles pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty added one inning with no hits, no walks and two strikeouts, and Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in one scoreless inning.

For Houston, Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched one scoreless inning. Bennett Sousa allowed two hits and one earned run in one inning and took the loss, falling to 0-1.

Toronto closes it out

Louis Varland pitched one inning with no hits, no walks and one strikeout and earned the win, improving to 4-4. Chase Lee allowed one hit in one inning and recorded his first save.

Houston’s final run came in the bottom of the 10th when Alvarez singled to right to score Peña. Alvarez was out stretching at second, and Houston challenged the call, which was upheld.

The announced attendance was 27,751. The Astros fell to 59-57, while the Blue Jays improved to 54-61.
