Major League Soccer's All-Stars are set to face off against Liga MX All-Stars in a match at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

This matchup continues the tradition of pitting the two North American leagues against each other, rather than featuring teams from within a single league. The event comes during a condensed MLS schedule, which resumed on July 16 after a break for the World Cup held across North America.

Dean Smith, head coach of Charlotte FC, selected the MLS roster for this event at his home stadium. The 29-player lineup was formed through a combination of fan votes, Smith's own choices, and picks made by MLS commissioner Don Garber.

Notable additions to the roster include high-profile signings Son Heung-min and Thomas Muller, along with Toronto FC's Richie Laryea and three players from the Vancouver Whitecaps.

In the lead-up to the match, there were some changes to the roster. Initially named players Hugo Cuypers, Rodrigo De Paul, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, and Lionel Messi were replaced for various reasons, with Messi and De Paul excused for rest.

Liga MX has announced a squad of 24 players for the match. Toluca, recently crowned champions of the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, has four players included in the lineup. Cruz Azul has the most representatives with five, while CF Pachuca contributes four players as well.

The match is part of a week of festivities in Charlotte, featuring a fan festival and other related activities. This exhibition reflects the growing relationship between MLS and Liga MX, as players frequently transfer between the two leagues and clubs compete in continental tournaments. Historically, Liga MX teams have had the upper hand in these matchups, adding a competitive dimension to the exhibition.

Toluca's participation underscores their recent success, as they bring four players from the reigning champions of the region. For MLS, the timing of this event presents both challenges and advantages, as teams are still adjusting after a lengthy pause, yet the break has allowed for a unique opportunity for a showcase.

Charlotte's selection as the host city highlights the league's ongoing expansion into new markets. Bank of America Stadium serves as a venue that accommodates a larger audience than typical soccer-specific stadiums, being home to both Charlotte FC and the NFL's Carolina Panthers.
