Plano’s residential water, sewer and trash rates increased Oct. 1, 2026, according to the city’s utility-rate notice.

The city estimates an additional $16 a month for its example household: water consumption of 10,000 gallons, a sewer billing average of 7,000 gallons and a 95-gallon trash cart. That is an illustration of the combined change, not a flat increase for every customer.

The minimum water charge rose by $2.50, from $30.90 to $33.40, with the first 1,000 gallons included. The city describes increases of 8% for higher water-usage tiers and sewer charges.

Sewer billing uses a winter-quarter average based on December through February water consumption, recalculated annually.

The city attributes the changes in part to rising wholesale water and wastewater-treatment costs. Those expenses account for more than two-thirds of its annual water and wastewater costs, according to the council’s rate memo.
