The Republican Party has selected Dallas as the site for its first-ever midterm election convention. The city, located approximately 18 miles south of Plano, will serve as the central hub for the party’s campaign activities during this election cycle.
Republican officials have expressed confidence in their statewide candidates. Gruters, a party representative, stated that the organization is committed to ensuring Attorney General Ken Paxton secures victory. While describing Paxton as an easy win in their internal assessments, Gruters noted that the party continues to monitor the trajectory of all competitive races to determine what additional support might be necessary.
In response to the Republican gathering, Texas Democratic Party Chair Kendall Scudder announced plans for counter-programming events. Scudder, who resides in Dallas, dismissed concerns about the Republican presence, stating she is not intimidated by the opposition. She remarked that it is unsurprising for the Republicans to choose Texas and Dallas for their convention, given the state’s political landscape.
Scudder suggested that the Republican decision to hold their convention in Texas indicates anxiety about the state’s political direction. She pointed to internal polling data that the GOP may be reviewing, implying that the party perceives Texas as a potential battleground. The Democratic Party is aiming to flip the state blue for the first time in several decades.
