Aidan Curry, a 23-year-old pitcher for the Texas Rangers organization, recorded 11 strikeouts during a recent start for Double-A Frisco against Midland. The performance occurred in 5.2 innings of work and represents a season high for the right-hander. This outing marked the first time Curry has reached double-digit strikeouts in a single game this season.
Frisco is about 12 miles northwest of Plano. The victory contributed to a strong finish for Curry in June, following a challenging debut with the team. He was promoted to Frisco in late May and made his first start on May 26 against Arkansas. That initial appearance was difficult; he pitched only three innings, allowing six hits, seven earned runs, and four walks, including a home run. He exited that game with a 21.00 earned run average for Frisco.
Curry gradually improved his effectiveness over the following weeks. In his next start on June 2, he allowed six earned runs. He reduced that total to three earned runs in a start on June 9, followed by two earned runs on June 16. He allowed three earned runs on June 23 and two earned runs in his final start of the month on June 30.
Over five starts in June, Curry posted a 2-1 record with a 5.14 ERA. He struck out 34 batters and walked eight across 28 innings, holding opponents to a .236 batting average. A notable aspect of his recent performance is his ability to pitch deeper into games. He has thrown at least five innings in each of his last four starts, including two outings of at least six innings. Prior to joining Frisco, he had only made two starts at High-A Hub City that lasted five or more innings.
The Rangers have increased Curry's workload to help develop him as a starter. Curry, originally from Ossining, New York, was signed by the Rangers out of Fordham Prep in 2020. The draft was limited to five rounds due to the pandemic, and he did not play professionally that year. He began his pro career in 2021 and has spent five years in the organization before this first assignment to Frisco.
