Tashley Gateley, a 32-year-old mother of five, was killed in her Plano home on September 13 by her ex-boyfriend, William Grundy, according to police and family statements. Plano Police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Lakestream Drive and found Gateley had been shot multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Grundy, 31, fled the location in a black Dodge Charger. One of Gateley’s children, who was present during the incident, provided police with the vehicle’s license plate number. The following morning, authorities located Grundy at a hotel. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted a traffic stop, but Grundy refused to comply and initiated a pursuit on Interstate 35 West.
During the chase, Grundy fired shots toward state troopers. The pursuit concluded near the border of Cooke and Denton counties when his vehicle collided with the highway’s center median. Grundy was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the impact caused the car to catch fire, resulting in a small grass fire.
Brianna Gipson, Gateley’s sister, described her sister as a "beautiful soul" in an interview with FOX 4. Gipson stated that Gateley had moved into the Plano residence months prior to the incident to leave an abusive relationship. She reported that Grundy had been sending constant threatening texts and had used a spare key to enter the home.
All five of Gateley’s children were inside at the time, with one child in bed with her. Gipson said Grundy told the child to go upstairs before shooting Gateley 13 times.
