The Dallas Morning News will host a panel discussion titled "The Art of Place" on Sept. 28, 2026, at Ten 20 Gallery in downtown Plano. The event, scheduled for 6 p.m., brings together local artists and civic leaders to discuss the role of public art in North Texas. The gathering is part of the outlet's Plano Pop-Up Newsroom initiative, which runs through Sept. 30.
Kendrix Wesley, the owner of Ten 20 Gallery and a partner in the event, stated that the goal is to create a space for the community to share stories and goals in an actionable manner. Wesley also noted that he views journalists as artists who tell stories in different formats, describing the presence of artists as a gateway to various possibilities.
The gallery, located at 1001 14th St. #200, will feature local art on display along with light bites and refreshments for attendees.
Leah Waters, an assistant breaking news editor at The Dallas Morning News, will moderate the panel.
The lineup of speakers includes Michelle Hawkins, the Downtown Plano Manager for the City of Plano; Suzy Sloan Jones, executive director of ArtCentre of Plano; Tina Ngo, a local tape artist; Dollie Thomas, executive director of the Plano African American Museum; Anusha Sekhar, an artist; and Wesley, who is also a photographer.
The panel is one of several activities during the three-day pop-up newsroom event. Reporters, editors, and visual journalists will be stationed at Urban Rio on 14th Street from Sept. 28 to 30. The public is invited to visit the newsroom during the day to speak with staff, ask questions, and learn more about the newsroom operations.
