Chad Black, a Plano resident and Cancer Support Community North Texas’ development director, has been chosen as the organization’s next CEO. He is scheduled to begin the position in January 2027.
Black will take over from Mirchelle Louis, who has served as CEO for 18 years. The organization provides no-cost programs for people with cancer and their families, including counseling, support groups, educational sessions, wellness activities and ways for participants to connect with others.
Black said he wants to build on the organization’s existing work and broaden access to psychosocial cancer support.
The source reported that his five-year goal is to extend the organization’s reach beyond North Texas so more people in Texas can use the services without charge. “The need for mental health support after a cancer diagnosis continues to grow, and geography should never determine whether someone has access to those services,” Black said.
The leadership change comes as Cancer Support Community North Texas prepares to mark 25 years. Its 6th Annual Red Tie Gala, presented by Woot!, is planned for Nov. 14, 2026, at Astoria Event Venue near Dallas Love Field.
The gala theme is “Broadway Nights.” The event is set to include Broadway-themed performances, a meal, auctions and fundraising for the organization’s programs serving cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and families.
