Plano residents interested in laboratory careers have a local place to explore training: Collin College features biotechnology among the programs at its Plano Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway.

The college’s current program overview lists a Level 1 Biotechnology certificate and a Level 2 Advanced Biotechnology certificate. It describes study in biology, genetics and biotechnology for work in biological research or industrial laboratories. Students considering a later transfer should check with an adviser about which courses fit their intended degree.

The local offerings also have a connection to an earlier regional workforce initiative. On Aug. 3, 2022, Dallas College announced approximately $8.8 million in federal funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for a North Texas biotechnology workforce partnership. Collin College, Tarrant County College and the University of Texas at Arlington were named as education partners.

That award supported plans for training pathways in biotechnology, biomanufacturing and bioinformatics.

Collin's grant information sheet lists June 30, 2025 as the grant's end date. For current course availability, tuition and enrollment requirements, the Plano Campus admissions office lists 972-881-5710 and admissions@collin.edu as its contacts.
