Baylor University’s football team faces a challenge as wide receiver Taz Williams Jr. is set to undergo surgery for a broken collarbone sustained during fall camp. Head coach Dave Aranda confirmed that Williams will be sidelined for a few weeks after he fell while attempting to catch a pass.
With Williams out, several receivers must rise to the occasion. Ashton Jones, a six-foot-four redshirt freshman, presents a unique vertical threat to the team. His size and potential for making contested catches could be crucial as the offense looks to stretch opposing defenses.
Jadon Porter is another key player expected to step up. Having played in 11 games last season, he brings valuable experience and familiarity with the offense. Porter recorded nine receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown last year, making him a reliable option in the slot as the team adjusts to Williams' absence.
Additionally, true freshman London Smith has the opportunity to showcase his skills. Known for his impressive athleticism and speed, Smith could become a significant playmaker for Baylor. However, relying on a freshman comes with risks, including a steep learning curve.
