A football player from Texas Christian University was hospitalized for three days after suffering a brain bleed due to an alleged assault by a teammate. The incident took place on August 13 in the locker room, where former safety Jacob Fields reportedly struck wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the forehead and kicked him.
Ezukanma was later found to have a brain bleed, a concussion, and a strained AC joint.
Following the incident, Fields was removed from the team and surrendered to law enforcement on Sunday. An arrest affidavit revealed that Ezukanma believed the incident arose from competitive tensions during practice, as Fields felt he was underperforming. After the altercation, Ezukanma shared messages from Fields expressing remorse and offering to pay for his medical expenses.
Ezukanma's family reported that he is on the mend and looking forward to returning to play once he receives medical clearance. His sister emphasized the need for accountability in this matter. Meanwhile, TCU is managing the situation while concentrating on their season, having recently faced a loss.
Head coach Sonny Dykes commented on the team's resilience amid distractions. A spokesperson for Fields mentioned that he has secured legal representation and will allow the legal proceedings to take their course, indicating that the truth will eventually be revealed. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as TCU continues its season.
