Texas Tech has secured a non-conference opponent for its 2030 football slate by agreeing to play Texas State at home. The matchup is set for Sept. 14, 2030, according to a report from FBSchedules.com that cited a contract acquired through an open-records request.

Under the terms of the agreement, Texas Tech must pay Texas State a game guarantee of $1.2 million. This addition completes the Red Raiders' non-conference schedule for that year. The 2030 season begins with a trip to Las Vegas to face Arkansas at Allegiant Stadium on Aug. 31. One week later, the team hosts Fresno State.

Despite filling the 2030 slot, Texas Tech still requires one non-conference opponent for each of the years 2027, 2028, and 2029. The need to find multiple opponents on a compressed timeline stems from several recent scheduling changes. Mississippi State canceled a two-game series originally planned for 2028 and 2029 without incurring a penalty due to a change in the SEC scheduling model.

North Carolina State exercised a buyout option for a 2027 game that was scheduled to take place in Lubbock. Additionally, Texas Tech chose to exercise a buyout option for a 2027 game at North Texas. The Red Raiders still have two non-conference home games listed for each of those three years.

The full schedule data shows various financial arrangements and historical adjustments. For instance, the 2030 game against Arkansas includes a $3 million participation fee from ESPN Productions, Inc., though the date remains flexible around Labor Day weekend. Other notes indicate that several future games were originally scheduled for 2020 but were pushed back due to the pandemic or other logistical issues.
