Head Coach Neal Brown has raised alarms about the North Texas Mean Green offensive line as preparations for the 2026 season are underway. Following a recent practice, Brown remarked that the line is far from meeting expectations, citing issues like a lack of toughness in the run game and inadequate pad level.
The offensive line was vital to North Texas' success in the 2025 season, where they led the nation with 49 rushing touchdowns and were recognized for having the top-scoring offense. The team will need to rebuild after losing all five starting offensive linemen from last year.
Only two players, senior Johnny Williams IV and fifth-year Chandler Strong, have shown potential during fall camp, with Strong being noted as the standout.
Brown emphasized the need to find the right mix of players, stating that the team cannot compete with just two offensive linemen. He mentioned that all positions on the line are open for competition, regardless of scholarship status, as the coaching staff aims to create a physically dominant unit before their first game on September 5.
The pressure is mounting on Brown, offensive line coach Matt Mattox, and run game coordinator Mike Bloesch to enhance the offensive line's performance before the season kicks off. Brown cautioned that if the line does not improve, the team will face significant struggles.
