A former assistant men’s basketball coach at Baylor University, Jared Nuness, has accepted a two-year show-cause order from the NCAA after admitting to placing thousands of bets on both professional and college sports. This resolution comes following an investigation that began when a third-party sports wagering monitoring system flagged Nuness in November 2025.
Baylor conducted its own internal investigation and subsequently reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, initiating a joint investigation. In February 2026, Nuness acknowledged to the NCAA that he had violated NCAA rules by engaging in sports betting through two online platforms. He also admitted to allowing his minor son access to his betting accounts.
The NCAA’s findings revealed that Nuness’ son placed three bets on NCAA Division I men’s basketball games, amounting to $170. Notably, none of these wagers involved Baylor University or its student athletes. Between December 29, 2020, and November 28, 2025, Nuness reportedly placed approximately 3,400 bets totaling around $38,000 while serving on Baylor's coaching staff.
Nuness accepted full responsibility for his betting activities, and both he and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to classify the case as a Level II-Standard violation. In a statement, Baylor Athletics confirmed its cooperation with the NCAA throughout the investigation, mentioning ongoing compliance education efforts, including collaboration with ProhiBet.
The NCAA's resolution also includes a requirement for Nuness to complete meaningful sports betting education and to provide similar education to his peers. Additionally, he has received a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, which equates to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand and censure.
