The Dallas Cowboys are keeping running back Tyler Goodson as part of their backfield plans after making several roster changes at the position. The team also waived Israel Abanikanda after releasing 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue near the end of training camp.
Goodson’s former Atlanta Falcons teammate, Bijan Robinson, discussed the move in an interview with Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa, as reported by heavy.com. Robinson described Goodson as a versatile player who can run, make cuts across the field and catch passes from the backfield. Robinson also said Dallas had taken “my guy.”
Goodson spent training camp with Atlanta and led the Falcons in preseason rushing with 92 yards. He also scored on a 49-yard run.
Before joining Atlanta, Goodson played his first three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He carried the ball 54 times for 264 yards and one touchdown, while also making 19 catches for 103 yards and another touchdown.
Dallas is adding depth after an injury to Malik Davis. Goodson’s ability as a runner and receiver gives the Cowboys another option, although his opportunity to play has not yet been made clear.
