The Houston Texans have ruled out wide receiver Nico Collins for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts because of a hamstring injury. The decision was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Sept. 25 and later confirmed by the team, according to sports.yahoo.com.
Collins sustained a Grade 1 hamstring strain during practice last week. He missed Houston’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals and did not practice during the week before the Colts matchup. His absence will extend to a second straight game.
Houston is 0-2 after scoring six points in a 20-6 loss to Cincinnati. C.J. Stroud will again be without one of the Texans’ main receiving options, with Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jared Wayne among the available wide receivers listed in the report.
Tight end Dalton Schultz could receive more work. He caught 12 of 14 passes thrown his way for 140 yards against Cincinnati, including eight receptions in the fourth quarter. Through two games, Schultz leads Houston with 16 catches for 175 yards.
The Texans may also use additional tight ends and seek more production from their running game. David Montgomery and Woody Marks combined to help Houston average 1.5 yards per carry from its running backs against the Bengals. Indianapolis has allowed 354 rushing yards and 5.4 yards per carry through two games.
