The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a trade that will send offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Nate Thomas, 25, was selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft from Louisiana. After spending his rookie year on injured reserve, he participated in all 17 games for Dallas in the 2025 season, starting four of those games. Primarily playing as a left tackle, Thomas has also been utilized as a swing tackle throughout his career.
At the start of the offseason, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that Thomas and teammate Tyler Guyton were in competition for the starting left tackle position. However, as training camp progressed, Schottenheimer announced that Guyton would remain the starter, citing the need for Thomas to demonstrate more consistent performance.
The Cowboys have also bolstered their offensive tackle options by acquiring Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who has experience playing on both sides of the offensive line.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones mentioned that the team has a strategy in place for managing their offensive tackle roster, stating, "We've seen some guys that we might make some shifting around if it called for it."
