The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after releasing him to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Initially, the Cowboys kept three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, but Milton's release opened up an opportunity for other teams to claim him on waivers.
Surprisingly, no team chose to pick him up, despite reported interest in signing him to a practice squad.
Dak Prescott, the Cowboys' star quarterback, expressed his excitement about Milton's return, stating that he believed Milton would have been claimed off waivers. Prescott highlighted Milton's positive impact on the team's quarterback room and his overall contributions to the squad. He noted Milton's competitive spirit and talent, emphasizing the progress he has made since joining the team.
Milton, who was drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024 and traded to the Cowboys before the 2025 season, showed potential but faced challenges in his development. Last season, he played in four games, completing 15 of 24 passes for 183 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
This preseason, however, he demonstrated significant improvement, completing 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while reducing his number of overthrown passes.
