The Houston Texans have made a significant addition to their wide receiver corps by trading for Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. This move comes after the Texans lost second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL during practice, creating a need for additional receiving talent.
In exchange for Boutte, who was unlikely to receive a contract extension after his rookie deal, the Texans sent a seventh-round draft pick and safety Jayden Reed to the Patriots. Boutte, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown promise during his time in New England, finishing the 2025 season with 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans spoke about the trade after a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, expressing his enthusiasm for Boutte's potential impact on the team. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans said.
He emphasized the importance of filling the gap left by Higgins and highlighted Boutte's ability to make big plays, noting his consistent performance against the Texans in previous matchups.
Ryans described Boutte as a young player with significant room for growth, stating, "He's still an ascending player with a lot to improve upon; a lot to grow." He expressed excitement about working with Boutte and integrating him into the Texans' offensive strategy as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
