Dozie Ezukanma, a wide receiver for TCU, was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed, a concussion, and other injuries stemming from an alleged incident involving teammate Jacob Fields at the Walsh Athletic Complex on August 13. Fields reportedly struck Ezukanma in the head while he was seated and distracted by his phone.

Witnesses indicated that after the initial blow, Fields kicked Ezukanma in the back of the head, which resulted in him losing consciousness. Ezukanma later recounted to police that he only remembered being in the training room and inquiring about what had occurred.

After experiencing severe headaches and ringing in his ears, Ezukanma was taken to the hospital, where scans confirmed a brain bleed, prompting his transfer to the ICU. During his hospitalization, multiple CT scans were performed, with one indicating that the hematoma had increased in size. He was discharged on August 16, having also sustained a strained AC joint in his shoulder.

Jacob Fields was dismissed from the team on August 18 and subsequently turned himself in to law enforcement, facing charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He was released from Tarrant County Jail after posting a $50,000 bond.

Following the incident, Fields conveyed his remorse in a message to TCU police, mentioning that his actions were an emotional reaction and he offered to pay for Ezukanma's medical expenses. TCU head coach Sonny Dykes remarked on the situation, stating that it was uncharacteristic for both the team and Fields.

Ezukanma, who attended Keller Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth, was anticipated to be one of the starting wide receivers for the upcoming season. TCU is set to play against Grambling on September 12.
