Baylor head coach Dave Aranda announced that quarterback DJ Lagway is considered day-to-day as he recovers from an ankle injury. The team will assess his condition during practice before deciding on his availability for the upcoming game against Prairie View A&M.

Lagway made his debut for Baylor in a close 17-16 loss to Auburn, completing 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, along with two touchdowns and one interception. The Bears narrowly missed a chance to win the game with a failed two-point conversion attempt at the end.

Auburn head coach Alex Golesh praised Lagway's performance, noting his toughness in playing through the injury. Golesh stated, "The quarterback is a tough kid. If you’ve got any question on how tough that kid is... he got banged up early, and that is a tough, tough football player."

Lagway, who transferred from Florida after two seasons, was highly regarded as the No. 3 ranked player in his class. He was expected to be the future of the program after stepping into a starting role at Florida following an injury to quarterback Graham Mertz.

Despite leading the Gators to a 5-1 record in the final games of the season, his time at Florida was marred by struggles, including a disappointing performance against USF and a total of 14 interceptions last season.

Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow commented on Lagway's situation, suggesting that he needed a fresh start away from the pressures he faced at Florida.

Tebow expressed confidence that Lagway would thrive in a new environment, stating, "I think he’ll play with a lot more joy, and I think when he does that, I think he’ll have an opportunity to play to the best of his ability."

Further details regarding Lagway's injury and recovery timeline are not yet clear.
