The Dallas Cowboys have signed two-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller to a one-year contract, aiming to strengthen their pass rush. Miller, who has accumulated 136.5 sacks over his 14-year career, recorded 9.0 sacks last season while playing for Washington.

Despite his impressive resume, the decision to bring in the 37-year-old has sparked criticism regarding its potential impact on the team's defense, which has struggled in recent seasons.

Bryan Broaddus, a former Cowboys scout now providing analysis for 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, expressed strong disapproval of the signing, labeling it a 'bad, bad deal.' He argues that Miller's performance last season does not warrant a starting role, suggesting that if he were not a well-known player, he would not have been signed based on his recent tape.

Broaddus noted that Miller lacks the necessary burst and closing ability, stating that many of his sacks last year resulted from mistakes made by opposing offensive linemen.

Broaddus also pointed out that James Houston, a player likely to be affected by Miller's signing, performed better last season, ranking No. 49 among edge rushers compared to Miller's No. 66 position. He contended that Houston would likely outperform Miller in terms of pressures and sacks if given the same number of snaps.

In response to the criticism, Miller emphasized his potential contributions beyond just on-field performance. During his introductory press conference, he highlighted his ability to mentor younger players and provide valuable insights during games. "I can still play football. But I can still contribute in other ways," Miller stated, asserting his value as a teammate.

While the Cowboys hope that Miller's experience will enhance their defense, the mixed reactions to his signing indicate that the decision may not be universally accepted among fans and analysts alike. Further details about the team's plans for Miller's role are not yet clear.
