Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is listed as doubtful for the team’s Week 3 game against Louisiana Tech after missing the previous game with an ankle sprain. The injury occurred during Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn and kept Lagway out of the Bears’ victory over FCS opponent Prairie View A&M.

Baylor coach Dave Aranda said earlier in the week that Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated based on his practice progress. The team’s final injury report before the Louisiana Tech game designated the junior quarterback as doubtful.

The extent of the injury is not expected to keep Lagway out for a month or longer, according to the report. It is not yet clear whether he would be available in an emergency against Louisiana Tech. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes to have Lagway back for its Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday.

With Lagway sidelined, junior Nate Bennett is expected to take the starting quarterback role. Edward Griffin is listed as the second quarterback, followed by Quinn Murphy.

Bennett made his first start for Baylor against Prairie View A&M. He completed 26 of 34 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns, and added 13 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He also threw two interceptions. Bennett has limited college starting experience, according to the report.

Louisiana Tech’s only game against an FBS opponent this season was a loss to LSU. Further details about Lagway’s availability for the game were not provided.
