Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte spoke to the media for the first time since his trade from the New England Patriots to the Houston Texans. This press conference took place one week after the trade, where Boutte discussed his initial impressions of the Texans and the circumstances surrounding his departure from New England.
Boutte, who had requested a trade during the offseason, explained that the arrival of two new players significantly affected his role with the Patriots. He mentioned that the team signed Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract and acquired A.J. Brown from Philadelphia, which changed the dynamics of the wide receiver group.
As a result, Boutte found himself as the fourth wide receiver in training camp, behind Doubs, Brown, and DeMario Douglas.
Despite having a productive 2024 season with 42 receptions for 719 yards and seven touchdowns, Boutte's position on the depth chart limited his opportunities. Head coach Mike Vrabel indicated after the preseason finale that Boutte might not have been active for games this season. However, Boutte did not take Vrabel's comments as a negative reflection on his abilities.
He stated, "I wouldn’t say I’ll use that as fuel. At the end of the day, he said that. It was an honest opinion."
