SMU senior Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award Tuesday, earning co-defensive player of the week honors after the Mustangs’ 1-0 win over NC State. The conference honor, reported by SMU Athletics, is shared with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly.
Panozzo, a Sarasota, Florida, native, captained SMU’s defense in its ACC home opener and scored the game’s only goal. The Mustangs limited NC State to eight shots, with two on target, while recording their fifth shutout of the season.
The award is SMU’s second conference weekly honor this season. After the victory, the Mustangs moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. SMU is 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in ACC play, with conference action scheduled to resume Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
