The Dallas Cowboys have officially signed linebacker Von Miller, a native of DeSoto and a Texas A&M alumnus, to a one-year contract valued at $5.5 million. The deal could increase to $7.5 million if certain performance incentives are met.
Miller, who is 37 years old, demonstrated his ability to contribute last season with nine quarterback sacks, which the Cowboys hope to benefit from in their pass rush.
Miller's impressive career includes two Super Bowl championships, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, totaling 203 games played, 138.5 sacks, and 27 forced fumbles. His extensive experience is expected to bolster the Cowboys' outside linebacker (OLB) depth.
While the Cowboys' trade for Miller may not be the major upgrade some anticipated, his presence is expected to stabilize the OLB position. The current roster prediction suggests that the Cowboys will carry six OLBs on the active 53-man roster, with a couple more on the practice squad.
As it stands, Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku are projected as the starters, with Malachi Lawrence and Miller as primary backups. James Houston is expected to secure the fifth OLB spot, having contributed significantly to special teams last season.
