Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams expressed enthusiasm about the team's defensive progress as they prepare for the 2026 season. Williams noted that the growth of the defense is "like night and day," attributing this change to the new mindset instilled by coaches and the opportunity to practice against a strong offense during training camp.

The Cowboys have undergone significant changes on defense, including the hiring of Christian Parker as the new defensive coordinator. Parker, who previously served as the passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, is taking on his first role as an NFL defensive coordinator.

Williams emphasized the team's development since the offseason, stating, "It's been amazing — from where we started off in OTAs to where we are at now."

In 2025, the Cowboys struggled defensively, ranking last in the NFL in opponent passing yards and points allowed. Their previous defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, was replaced after a disappointing season. Under the prior leadership of Dan Quinn, the Cowboys had seen more success, ranking among the top defenses in the league from 2021 to 2023.

Dallas has made several roster moves to bolster the defense, including signing safety Jalen Thompson and cornerback Cobie Durant, as well as acquiring linebacker Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers. In the 2026 NFL Draft, the Cowboys traded up to select safety Caleb Downs and also picked linebacker Malachi Lawrence.

Williams, who was signed to a three-year, $105.9 million contract extension in August, had a productive 2025 season, recording 2.5 sacks and three forced fumbles over 15 games. The Cowboys are set to open their regular season on the road against the New York Giants on September 13.
