Kevin Jennings, the leading quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is expected to play in the season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This comes after he suffered a finger injury earlier this month when he accidentally caught it in a locker room door during fall camp.
Head coach Rhett Lashlee has expressed optimism regarding Jennings' recovery, confirming that the redshirt senior has started throwing again and is not experiencing any pain. Lashlee indicated that Jennings will have a complete two weeks to get ready for the game, with the goal of him being fully prepared by kickoff.
Lashlee remarked on Jennings' progress, stating, "Things are progressing well. He is feeling no pain, and we are integrating him back into practice this week, expecting him to be 100% for game one." According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Jennings' return is crucial for SMU's prospects this season.
Last year, he set personal bests with 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a completion rate of 66.1%. However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for growth as he heads into the new season.
