The Houston Texans have reduced their roster from 90 to 53 players, clarifying several aspects of their team as they prepare for Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. However, the team's roster decisions have raised new questions about the structure and strategy moving forward.
One significant query is whether the Texans will sign another quarterback to the practice squad. Currently, the team has only two quarterbacks, C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills, after releasing veteran Brett Rypien.
While the Texans seem satisfied with their current quarterback situation, there are several available veterans on the market, including Bailey Zappe and Josh Johnson, who could potentially join the team in the coming weeks.
Another point of uncertainty is which tight end will be inactive for the first game. The Texans have five tight ends on their roster, a notable increase from last year's two. Brevin Jordan, who recently returned to the roster, may be the most likely candidate to be inactive due to a leg injury.
Despite this, any of the tight ends could see action throughout the season, depending on game situations and health.
Additionally, the Texans will have to manage the absence of two key players, wide receiver Tank Dell and offensive tackle Braden Smith, both of whom are on injured reserve. Each player will miss a minimum of four games, and if they are not ready to return by Week 5, they may remain sidelined until after the team's Week 8 bye.
