The Houston Texans have received positive news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is dealing with a foot injury. Reports indicate that Smith's plantar fascia issue is not severe and is expected to keep him out for a couple of weeks, rather than the entire season.
KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson reported on August 27 that Smith's injury occurred during joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while the injury is concerning, it is not considered major. Smith's absence presents a challenge for the Texans, who signed him to a two-year, $20 million contract this offseason with the intention of having him as their starting right tackle.
Despite the injury, there are indications that the Texans may not need to rush Smith back into play. The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander noted that Trent Brown has been a reliable option at right tackle, and Blake Fisher has shown promise as a swing tackle, providing depth on the offensive line.
While Smith's recovery timeline is still being assessed, the Texans are optimistic about their current roster's ability to manage in his absence. Further updates on Smith's condition are anticipated as the situation develops.
