The Houston Texans are dealing with significant challenges as they prepare for their preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 20. Wide receiver Jayden Higgins has been ruled out for the entire season due to a torn ACL, impacting the team's offensive strategy and placing additional pressure on quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Stroud, who had a standout rookie season, has seen a decline in his performance over the past two seasons. With Higgins sidelined, he will need to rely on other receivers, particularly Nico Collins, who had a productive season last year with 71 receptions for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns.
The Texans are also looking for contributions from Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel to fill the void left by Higgins.
Despite many quarterbacks opting to rest during the second preseason game, Stroud is expected to play a few series, potentially up to 25 plays. The first-team offensive line will also be on the field, while the first-string defense will not participate in the game.
The Texans had one of the top defenses in the NFL last season, but their focus now shifts to overcoming the challenges on offense as they head into the matchup against the Raiders.
