The Houston Texans are signing running back Dare Ogunbowale to their active roster before Week 4, Sports Illustrated reported Sept. 29. Ogunbowale returns after briefly being with the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason, following Houston’s decision not to re-sign him at that point.
Ogunbowale spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with Houston and appeared in more than 60 games. His work came primarily on special teams, but he also recorded 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns during his Texans tenure.
The move is not expected to alter the team’s leading running back roles. David Montgomery and Woody Marks are projected to handle most offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. The Texans’ running back group now has four players.
The team’s specific reason for making the signing was not provided. One possibility identified in the report is that Houston is preparing for a potential injury, although player injury information for Week 4 was not expected to be available until after Wednesday’s practice. Another possibility is that the Texans wanted additional depth and a veteran special teams contributor.
