The Houston Texans have finalized their 53-man roster for the upcoming season, which includes undrafted rookie defensive end Sabastian Harsh. Initially, Harsh's chances of making the team appeared slim, but his determination and strong performances during the preseason ultimately secured his spot.
Harsh expressed his anxiety while waiting for the roster announcement, sharing his experience on Texans radio. "I talked to my mom, and my dad and I was just kind of waiting for a phone call," he said. When he saw the roster released, he was thrilled, stating, "Oh my gosh. Like, that is pretty cool, man."
Despite missing the first preseason game due to injury, Harsh capitalized on his opportunities in subsequent games. His standout performance against the Carolina Panthers included three tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, two quarterback hits, and one pass breakup.
This display of skill highlighted his potential as both a pass rusher and a run defender, which likely contributed to head coach DeMeco Ryans' decision to include him on the roster.
Although Harsh has achieved this significant milestone, he acknowledges that his journey is far from over. "Even still now, like, I haven't done it yet. So, still got a lot more work to do," he remarked. He is set to benefit from mentorship by established players such as Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter on the Texans' defensive line.
