DJ Lagway, a highly regarded quarterback, has transferred from Florida to Baylor ahead of the new season. Lagway, who was the No. 3 ranked player in his class, initially faced high expectations when he joined Florida in 2024.
After stepping in as the starting quarterback due to an injury to Graham Mertz, he led the Gators to a 5-1 record in the latter part of the season, including victories over ranked teams.
However, Lagway's second season did not unfold as anticipated. Struggling with injuries and performance issues, he finished the season with 2,264 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, contributing to Florida's disappointing 4-8 record. Following the season, Lagway decided to enter the Transfer Portal in search of a new opportunity, ultimately choosing Baylor.
Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, shared his thoughts on Lagway's transfer during an appearance on 'The Paul Finebaum Show.' He expressed that Lagway needed a change in environment to thrive, stating, "I think DJ needed a new opportunity. There was so much pressure on him. There was not enough help around him in Gainesville."
Tebow believes that Lagway will benefit from the fresh start at Baylor, where he will play under head coach Dave Aranda. Lagway's first game with the Bears is scheduled against Auburn, a crucial matchup for both him and Aranda, who are looking to rebound from a lackluster previous season.
