The Houston Texans have officially signed Mitchell Tinsley, a former wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, to their practice squad. This move was reported by Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on August 31.
Tinsley, who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, recorded 8 receptions for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns last season with the Bengals, who let him go due to their depth at the wide receiver position.
Following the signing, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic noted that Tinsley likely sees a better opportunity for playing time in Houston, especially as the Texans have been seeking additional wide receiver depth this month. The Texans' need for depth was exacerbated by the recent injury of Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL.
In addition to Tinsley, the Texans have also added Lewis Bond and Josh Kelly to their practice squad, bringing their total to three wide receivers. Tinsley, an undrafted free agent, has made four starts in his 19 regular-season games so far.
He is recognized as a possession receiver, known for his strong ball skills, though he may lack the speed and quickness to create separation on routes.
